Sometimes, you just physically can’t go on another hike or bike ride. Maybe the weather isn’t great today, or you are just tired. We understand! Spending time outside can make you a bit achy and sore, so this afternoon it could be best to find something a little less strenuous. What now? Instead of just going shopping (which we love!) or going to restaurants (which are plentiful, by the way), there are many more activities for you to do that are wholesome and fun for the entire family. Even if you are not an art aficionado or a cultural magnate, you will be surprised by the numerous Whitefish, Montana art and cultural activities on offer that will keep you interested and entertained!

Alpine Theatre Project

The Alpine Theatre Project focuses on providing kids an outlet, other than sports, that then puts on world-class and one-of-a-kind performances in an unlikely place. The Alpine Theater Project is designed to help adults and children alike figure out what they can do and tap into their imagination. Whether you want to go to a class and see how the professionals do it, participate in one of the numerous classes, or watch a show, there are tons of events for you to attend here!

Currently, you can head to the Larger Than Life: A Celebration of Song and Dance event at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center. This event runs from the end of June to the beginning of August, celebrating song and dance around the world. This show features Trans-Siberian Orchestra and many Broadway singers and actors, such as Robert Creighton, Eric Krop, Tracy McDowell, and LaTrisa Harper.

You can also check out the Million Dollar Quartet at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center on August 23rd. This upbeat and fun concert lasts one week long, until August 30th, and features look-alike and sound-alike singers of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and others! You can sit back, chill out, and listen to R&B and country hits of times past. Sing along and relive the hits like Blue Suede Shoes and Sixteen Tons to bring back some nostalgia to your vacation!

Lastly, if you stick around Whitefish and head here at the end of the summer, you can’t miss the ATP Kids: Cats show on October 21-23! There are four performances over the weekend which will open your eyes to the talent and magic of the ATP Kids students from Grades 1-8.

Whitefish Montana Art and Gallery Nights

One of the biggest events of the summer held in Whitefish every single summer is the Whitefish Gallery Nights from May to October. This weekly event is the perfect celebration of the weather turning warmer and being able to love your jacket at home during the summer months! This event occurs on the first Thursday of each month and provides tourists and locals alike a chance to explore the numerous Whitefish, Montana art galleries in a unique setting.

You can enjoy hors d’oeuvres, refreshments, snacks, and drinks as you meander and walk around the beautiful town, talking to artists about their works, inspiration, and background. Plus, this is a great time to meet other people and chat with local residents to see other fun things to do in the area! We guarantee you will find numerous small treasures and lesser-known artists who end up becoming your favorite painter or sculptor! And don’t forget to visit the Whitefish art studio!

Bigfork Summer Playhouse

Another must-visit during your time in Whitefish if you are interested in the arts is the Bigfork Summer Playhouse. Don’t just take our word for it – check out their reputation! This theater is in the midst of its 61st professional season. There are numerous shows currently on rotation throughout the summer that you will enjoy, such as Jimmy Buffet’s Escape to Margaritaville and the classic Fiddler on the Roof.

Live Music

Lastly, Whitefish has ample live music. Not only can you head to almost any bar or brewery on a certain night of the week to listen to local artists and singers, but you can listen to professionals in an intimate setting. We love going to the Glacier Symphony Orchestra to listen to the dozens of performers do their take on classical music, holiday songs, and pop ballads. You can also purchase tickets to the Glacier Chorale to listen to the 75-person symphonic choir bring chills to the listeners!

Plus, if you are in the mood for something more laid back, there are dozens of open mic nights, such as the Flathead Valley Open Mic Nights at Bias Brewing, Cypress Yard open mic night every Thursday evening, and Open Mic Night at Folklore Coffee for live music, poetry, and stand up!
