Les Mason State Park

HomeActivitiesLes Mason State Park

Les Mason State Park is a day use park on Whitefish Lake that features a lakeshore, swimming options, picnic settings, rental equipment, and much more. Some of the top activities in Les Mason State Park include bird watching, boating, fishing, hiking, paddleboarding, picnicking, and swimming. No matter when you come here, you can always find something fun to do with your group.

Activities in Les Mason State Park

We recommend going on the Les Mason State Park Walk for an easy trip for you and young kids. This short, 0.3-mile out and back trail is great for seeing the lake, spending some time by the water, and heading back to the car for a short trip.

You can also bring your binoculars and test your luck at bird watching! Featuring crystal clear blue waters, trees, bushes, forests, and mountains in the distance, this is the ideal place to spend a quiet afternoon bird watching and seeing the fish jump out of the water. If you are an animal lover, you may never want to leave Les Mason!

Another cool thing to do during your day trip here is to go picnicking. Grab some take-away food from one of the nearby restaurants in the local town, like Loula’s Cafe or Ciao Mambo, and head to one of the picnic areas to sit outside, dine al fresco, and watch the sunset over the lake.

You can also rent a board from the local rental company and use the bright blue water as a test for your stand up paddleboarding hobby! The lack of ripples and waves in the water are perfect for testing your balance, learning the technique, and testing your core strength on the bright blue water.

Lastly, Les Mason State Park is a great spot to go fishing and try your luck at catching some trout, small fish, or just practicing your reel throw! We love heading here with kids to teach them water safety, how to put the tackle on the rod, and the basics behind driving a boat.

Amenities in Les Mason State Park

Do you need something more during your day trip to this peaceful park? Don’t worry! We have got you covered. Les Mason offers boat rental and boat areas for you to head out on the water. We know that not everyone comes to Montana with a boat in tow. That is why the park offers equipment rental, like canoes, kayaks, life vests, paddle boats, paddle boards, and much more so you can enjoy the hot summer weather on the water.

The park also offers parking for vehicles. Don’t worry about having to carpool or park on the street during your stay here. The park makes it easy for you to pull right up to the edge of the lake for your early morning hike.

Seasons

Les Mason State Park is a breathtaking spot in Montana that is popular almost all year round. We recommend heading here during the spring, summer, and fall months to really take full advantage of the pristine weather, bright blue water, and slight breeze. Since this park is day-use only, we recommend heading here early in the morning to get in a hike, staying for the rest of the afternoon to chill out by the lake, and then heading home after watching sunset over the blue water.

Park Rules in Les Masons

Of course, while you are here, there are some rules to follow! The point of having park rules is to make sure that everyone can enjoy the beautiful untrue without being distracted by others or put in danger by other visitors. The park rules are simple and common sense, ensuring you and your family stay safe and happy during your day trip to this pristine lake.

Make sure that while you are here you pay the non-resident fee of just $8. Compared to other state parks, and prices of other things in the world today, $8 per vehicle is a great deal! Especially if you are coming here with a few adults. $2 to spend the day at a park? Yes please! While in the park, make sure you adhere to the quiet hours of between 10 pm and 7 am. If you are out for an early morning hike, please leave your loud music speaker at home.
