Some restaurants provide carry out and delivery for those who want to avoid the crowds. Advanced reservations are required at restaurants.

Turkey Trot

The annual Turkey Trot is back to an in-person event this Thanksgiving. The 5K run/walk event takes place Thanksgiving morning, November 25, 2021. The entry fee is $10 up until November 24. Race day registration includes a fee increase. In addition to the fee, the food bank appreciates food donations of traditional Thanksgiving meal items like ham, butter, pie filling and crust, and fresh or canned veggies. Other food bank staples like pasta and sauce, mac & cheese, and soup in pull-tab cans are also appreciated. Food and cash donations and a portion of the event proceeds go to the North Valley Food Bank.

Wineries and More

If you’re looking for some delicious Thanksgiving pairings, there are plenty to choose from. Before the day, set out on a tasting tour of northwest Montana’s award-winning craft beer breweries, wineries, and distilleries. You’ll taste brews in Whitefish, Kalispell, Columbia Falls, and Flathead Lake. Taste local craft beers, wines, liquors, and hard ciders and pick your favorites to add to your Thanksgiving menu. Some companies around Whitefish offer special tours focused on breweries or wineries. Those last about four hours and include multiple stops. Some tour prices include samples at each stop, as well as bottled water and snacks to soak up the alcohol between stops. These are typically 21 and older events and you must present valid ID.

Glacier National Park

Montana has not one, but two national parks! Make sure to visit at least one of them this Thanksgiving by planning a trip to Glacier National Park. Not only is it an UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s the world’s first International Peace Park, a designation it earned through a collaborative agreement of the US and Canada in 1932. Glacier National Park is just 27 miles from Whitefish and is full of fun and activity. You’ll encounter beautiful scenery and landscape bright with fall colors, wildlife, hiking trails, and more to keep you busy and exploring while you breathe fresh mountain air. See 25 named glaciers and over 1,000 species of plant life on this unforgettable outdoor experience this Thanksgiving. You can stretch your legs and work up an appetite before your big meal with a hike or take a scenic drive through the area.
