The Whitefish Museum

You’d be wrong if you think you need a train ticket for this experience. The Whitefish Museum is housed in what used to be the train station in the area. Instead, you’ll step into the history of Whitefish. The museum includes lots of railroad paraphernalia, along with many other displays and exhibits reflecting Whitefish’s past. Make note of the large tree stump outside the museum doors – an homage to the city’s former name of “Stumptown” and a reminder of the city’s past as a logging town before the railroad. Tap out a message in Morse Code or learn about local author Dorothy M. Johnson who wrote classics like “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” and “The Hanging Tree”. Visit Monday-Sunday 11 AM-3 PM. Admission is free, but a donation to the Whitefish Historical Society, the organization that maintains the museum, is appreciated.
